Audience Bewilderment Surrounding The Smashing Pumpkins’ Appearance on ‘Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade’

The Smashing Pumpkins took the stage for the Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade special, broadcasted on ABC during the Christmas morning festivities. This marked their second appearance on a Disney television special within the past month, with their prior performance of “Silver Bells” on The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration.

The band’s participation in the earlier special left some dedicated fans puzzled, and it seems that many followers are still finding it hard to reconcile the typically edgy rockers as a recurring presence in the Disney realm.

Fans React to Smashing Pumpkins’ Latest Disney Performance

Here are some fan responses posted on social media following The Smashing Pumpkins’ appearance on the Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade:

About the Band’s Performance

For this performance, frontman Billy Corgan and the rest of the band delivered an original holiday tune titled “Evergreen.” The melodic ballad featured Corgan strumming an acoustic guitar. The setting for The Smashing Pumpkins’ rendition was in front of Cinderella’s castle at Disney’s Magic Kingdom theme park in Florida, accompanied by artificial snowflakes swirling over the stage.

The show’s co-host, Julianne Hough, enthusiastically introduced the group, stating, “I am super excited because one of my all-time favorite bands is here to perform. They’ve sold over 30 million albums, have won seven VMAs, and two Grammy Awards. This is the first time this iconic band has performed on the show.”

Following the performance, Corgan had a chat with Hough, reflecting on what it meant to him to perform at the Disney theme park and shedding light on the details of “Evergreen.”

“It’s pretty magical for me, growing up on Disney,” he shared. “I first visited the Disneyland park in L.A. in ’74, around that time, so I’ve been coming for many years. And, of course, now I bring my family to the park. So we love coming to Disney, and we’re so grateful to be here.”

Discussing the song, Corgan mentioned, “We were working on a Christmas album that we never finished. But I wrote the song for the album, so when we got this opportunity, I thought it was the perfect place to debut it to the world. So, it’s awesome.”
