Lars Ulrich Shares Heartfelt Message Following the Loss of His Father, Torben Ulrich

On December 20, 2023, Lars Ulrich shared the news of his father, Torben Ulrich’s passing through an Instagram post. Recently, he returned to the platform to express his emotions and extend gratitude to his followers. Accompanied by a black and white photo of Torben, the drummer wrote:

“Since my dad’s passing 10 days ago, there has been an unexpected influx of condolences, messages, stories, and testimonies coming my way about how his life impacted and affected so many people in a variety of different ways; it’s honestly blown me away.”

Continuing his sentiments, he added: “As you can imagine, it’s been quite a surreal time, so let me say from the heart how much I truly appreciate every single thought, sentiment, feeling, and emotion you’ve kindly taken the time to share with me. It means so, so, so much… Thank you, thank you, thank you…”

Not Everyone in the Industry Received News of Torben Ulrich’s Passing

Torben passed away just a week before his son’s 60th birthday. Ulrich’s wife, Jessica Miller, took to Instagram to celebrate her husband while also expressing her sorrow over the death of the 95-year-old man.

Following Miller’s post, fans and some figures from the industry congratulated the Metallica drummer. However, it seems that not everyone was aware of his grieving, as Sammy Hagar commented on Ulrich’s recent post, explaining:

“My friend, I had no idea about your father’s passing as I wished you a happy birthday last week. Strange times indeed. But probably perfectly orchestrated by the master.”

Condolences Pour In from Various Figures

When Ulrich initially announced his father’s passing, he highlighted the late tennis player and musician’s ‘unique experiences, curiosity, pushing boundaries, challenging the status quo, tennis, music, art, writing, and quite a bit of Danish contrarian attitude.’

In response, Sebastian Bach from Skid Row made reference to Torben’s contributions to Metallica and the drummer’s music. He reminisced about the ‘delete that’ moment from ‘Metallica: Some Kind Of Monster,’ writing:

“Your Dad was cool as f**k. I would say, ‘Delete that.’ Completely legendary. Your Dad will always be by your side.” Meanwhile, Matt Sorum shared: “Your relationship with your Dad was always inspiring to me. Thank you for sharing him with the world. Condolences to the entire Ulrich family.”
