In a recent interview with the Seattle Times, Nancy Wilson shared that she once contemplated orchestrating a quarrel with Ann Wilson to pacify critics.
When questioned about the dynamics of being in a band with close family members and its impact on the long-term success of Heart, the singer responded:
“The first question a lot of people have always asked either of us, me or Ann, has been ‘Do you guys fight?’ Like sibling rivalry. They’re hoping that we say yes. At one point, we even thought about staging a fight just to appease the, what is now like, the haters on social media — like everybody has to take sides all the time.”
The Musical Odyssey of the Wilson Sisters Together
Wilson continued to discuss the experience of creating music alongside her sister since childhood: “Everyone has to be in opposing camps, which is such nonsense to begin with; don’t even get me started on that. But in my case, having Ann as my sister and having been involved in music with her since I was practically born, it’s a positive thing.”
Putting an End to Speculations of a Feud
Over the past few years, Ann and Nancy have encountered some challenges. In a 2022 interview with Classic Rock magazine, Ann provided insight into her relationship with her sister. She clarified that despite external perceptions, there is no ongoing feud between them, explaining:
“It’s a myth. Nancy and I are okay with each other. We just have different ideas for what Heart should be, and we haven’t figured out a compromise yet. Fifty years on, I still want it to break barriers and rules, and she’s more satisfied to ride the LA imaging thing and just do legacy stuff. So that’s a real split between us. Things like this will happen, though, but then they’ll get better, and we’ll love each other more.”
In 2016, the sisters experienced a rift when Ann’s husband, Dean Wetter, assaulted Nancy’s teenage sons at a Heart concert over an open tour bus door, later admitting to the assault. However, by 2019, Ann and Nancy Wilson had resolved their issues and resumed touring together as Heart.
