Paul McCartney is marking the third anniversary of his 2020 solo album, McCartney III, with the launch of exclusive colored-vinyl editions. The McCartney III — 3×3 Edition is set to hit stores on Friday, December 15, and enthusiasts can choose from three distinct multi-color variants.

Among these variants is an LP showcasing a tri-color vinyl disc, featuring vibrant blue, red, and yellow sections. Accompanying this edition is a package that includes a replica of McCartney’s handwritten lyrics for the album track “Pretty Boys.”

Another variant showcases striking blue, red, and yellow stripes and includes a print featuring a hand-drawn album-art sketch by McCartney. In a third rendition, the vinyl is pressed with a mesmerizing multi-colored swirl and is paired with a replica of McCartney’s handwritten lyrics for the song “The Kiss of Venus” from McCartney III.

The McCartney III — 3×3 Edition will also unveil a fresh album cover, along with a poster featuring Ed Ruscha’s hand-sketched draft for the original album’s artwork. Initial Launch of McCartney III

Inception of McCartney III: Launched on December 18, 2020, McCartney III marked the third installment in a trilogy of solo albums by McCartney, where he took on the task of recording either entirely or almost completely on his own. The series also included his 1970 solo debut, McCartney, and the 1980 McCartney II album.

Recorded amid the COVID-19 pandemic, McCartney III came to life during what the Beatles legend humorously coined as his “Rockdown” phase. The album not only claimed the top spot on the U.K. chart but also reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

Reimagining McCartney III

In March 2021, McCartney unveiled “McCartney III Imagined,” a compilation featuring remixed and reimagined versions of tracks from McCartney III. The roster of artists contributing to this project included Beck, St. Vincent, Phoebe Bridgers, Damon Albarn from Blur, Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age, Anderson .Paak, and actor/DJ Idris Elba.

Reissue for the 50th Anniversary of “Band on the Run”

In recent news, McCartney has revealed his intentions to launch an expanded 50th-anniversary edition of his acclaimed 1973 album with Wings, “Band on the Run,” slated for release on February 2, 2024. This deluxe reissue is set to include an additional disc featuring “underdubbed” mixes of the nine songs from the original U.K. release.

The “Band on the Run (Underdubbed)” collection presents versions of the tunes without orchestral overdubs. Crafted in October 1973, these raw mixes were the collaborative efforts of longtime Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick and Pete Swettenham.
