Ride Reveals Upcoming Album ‘Interplay’

Shoegaze ensemble Ride has officially announced their seventh studio album, titled “Interplay,” slated for release on March 29th, 2024. This marks the band’s third record in their second phase.

The unveiling of ‘Interplay’ comes with the release of the lead single, ‘Peace Sign,’ a spirited song that complements the album announcement. The track is not only irresistibly catchy but also showcases the band’s inventive guitar playing, featuring intricate runs that persist throughout the composition.

‘Peace Sign’ originated as a jam, a common starting point for many tracks, before guitarist and vocalist Andy Bell shaped it into a more refined form. Bell shared, “I got hold of the recording and wrestled it into song form. Lyrically, I was inspired by a film called ‘The Alpinist’ about the visionary free climber Marc-André Leclerc.”

Reflecting the stylistic direction Ride has pursued in their recent albums like “Weather Diaries” and “This Is Not A Safe Place,” characterized by groove-infused and expansive soundscapes, ‘Peace Sign’ suggests that ‘Interplay’ will continue in a similar vein.

The upcoming album is poised to cater to the band’s dedicated fanbase while also attracting a broader audience that they have successfully cultivated in their latest era.

Andy Bell commented on the album’s journey, stating, “This album has taken a long time to make, and has seen the band go through a lot of ups and downs, maybe the most of any Ride album. But it has seen us come through the process as a band in a good place, feeling able to shake off the past, and ready to celebrate the combined musical talents that brought us together in the first place.” Witness the visualizer for the new single ‘Peace Sign’ below.
