Sight to See: Former Van Halen Bassist Michael Anthony Reunites with Wolfgang Van Halen at Mammoth WVH Concert

After decades apart, Michael Anthony, the original bassist of Van Halen, reunited with Wolfgang Van Halen, son of the late Eddie Van Halen, on Friday, December 8. This heartwarming encounter took place when Anthony attended a Mammoth WVH concert in Las Vegas, the current band of the Van Halen legacy.

Both musicians documented their reunion on Instagram, sharing backstage moments captured at the House of Blues. Anthony posted a photo featuring their smiles and embrace, accompanied by a video clip of Wolfgang delivering an acoustic rendition of his song “Distance.” This poignant track serves as a tribute to his father, who sadly passed away from cancer in October 2020.

“Caught MAMMOTH WVH’s show last night here in Vegas, and they absolutely killed it!” Anthony expressed in the post’s caption. “Love ya, Wolf, so great to see ya! (Proud of you, brother!!)”

Van Halen responded with a post saying, “So great to see ya! Love ya, brother!! ❤️❤️❤️” Further down the Instagram conversation, a fan inquired about the last time Anthony and Wolfgang had been together. Anthony replied, “First time in 20 years.”

Wolfgang Van Halen Shares Insights on the Reunion

In the meantime, Van Halen shared two photos on Instagram, capturing moments of him and Anthony hanging out and embracing backstage. Accompanying the pictures was a message that read, “Ran into an old friend at the @mammothwvh show in Vegas tonight. (Love ya, Mikey ❤️).” Anthony responded by writing, “So great to see ya last night! You and the guys killed it!! Love ya brother ❤️❤️.”

Sammy Hagar’s Reaction

Anthony, naturally, was succeeded by Wolfgang in Van Halen in 2006, just before the band reunited with original lead singer David Lee Roth. Since the 2000s, Anthony has been part of several backing bands for ex-Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar.

Hagar shared a note on Anthony’s Instagram page in response to his friend reconnecting with Wolfgang. “[T]otally awesome to see you & Wolf together,” he wrote.

Michael Anthony’s Tour Plans with Hagar

As previously mentioned, Hagar is set to embark on a 2024 tour featuring Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani, and drummer Jason Bonham as his backing band. Named The Best of All Worlds Tour, the journey will prominently showcase Hagar and company delving into the Van Halen catalog. Hagar has extended invitations to Wolfgang Van Halen, Roth, and drummer Alex Van Halen to make guest appearances on the tour.

The tour commences on July 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida. In additional updates, Hagar and Anthony are slated to perform tonight, December 11, at the House of Blues in Las Vegas. The two musicians will participate in a special show commemorating the 40th anniversary of popular rock DJ Eddie Trunk’s career in radio.
