The Killers Surprise Fans with Festive Single on Social Media Indie rock darlings, The Killers, are spreading holiday cheer with a surprise single released exclusively on their social media platforms. The untitled track, yet to hit streaming services, was shared on The Killers’ Facebook, Instagram, and X accounts, accompanied by a festive image of a present shaped like the letter K. In a caption, the band teased, “Santa’s got a brand new song in his bag. Merry Christmas!”
Currently available solely on the band’s social media, the untitled song showcases The Killers’ new wave influences and highlights Brandon Flowers’ distinctive vocals. The chorus echoes with the repetition of the line, “We did it in the name of love.”
This unexpected holiday release follows the recent launch of Rebel Diamonds, a compilation album featuring tracks spanning The Killers’ two-decade career. The album includes timeless hits like ‘Mr. Brightside’ and ‘Somebody Told Me,’ as well as more recent offerings such as ‘Quiet Town.’
Despite the new wave-inspired single, Flowers revealed that the band scrapped a synth album, deeming it not “authentic.” In a recent interview, he admitted, “It felt like we were forcing something,” expressing love for synth music but acknowledging it didn’t align with the band’s essence. The frontman emphasized the band’s respect for synth legends like New Order and Depeche Mode but concluded that it didn’t feel like the right creative direction for The Killers.
