Unearthed: Listen to a Previously Unheard Version of Freddie Mercury’s ‘Time Waits For No One

The Queen legacy thrives as a fresh, previously unreleased iteration of Freddie Mercury’s 1986 hit, ‘Time Waits For No One,’ is set for release, accompanied by a brand-new video.

Originally recorded in 1985, a mere five years before his tragic demise, the original track was a collaborative effort between Mercury and Dave Clark for the Time concept album, inspired by the London musical of the same name. Titled simply ‘Time,’ the original version featured Mercury supported by a grand arrangement complemented by a distinctly theatrical backing.

Having discovered the archived original tape in the spring of 2018, Clark has now unveiled the original vocal recording. The track undergoes a significant transformation, featuring a minimalist arrangement that places Mercury’s unstoppable vocals at the forefront, complemented by a new piano line.

In a conversation with NME, Clark shared insights into the original sessions and his collaboration with the Queen icon: “We got on great…if I didn’t like something I’d say, and vice versa…we were both aiming for the same thing: to make something special.”

Accompanying the fresh rendition of the song is a new video. While delving into his extensive archives (how vast they are, and what other treasures lie within?), Clark unearthed the original negatives of the recording session, providing a visual glimpse into the session held at London’s Dominion Theatre.

“A breathtaking eulogy dedicated to the iconic Queen frontman, crafted under the guidance of one of his dearest friends—produced and directed with utmost reverence.”
